The URBAN II Hetton and Murton Community
Initiative is being delivered by the Connecting the Coalfields
Partnership. The Partnership is investing over £8 million
of European Regional Development Fund money in the communities
of the Hetton and Murton area. That money is being matched from
other sources to make a total investment of over £17 million.
A programme of projects is developing the social
and economic circumstances of the villages of
this former coal mining area. Different organisations
are
delivering individual projects that provide
a range of services and facilities. The Partnership
will continue to accept project proposals
and allocate funding to new projects. The Initiative
will run to December 2008 and will have allocated
all of the funding by December 2006.
