Community
Initiative Programme Document for Hetton & Murton - October
2001 (zip file)
This document is the approved URBAN II Community
Initiative Programme (CIP) for Hetton and Murton.
The submission represents a multi-agency approach to the complex
and deep-rooted problems of the former mining community, Hetton
and Murton, which lies within the administrative area of 3 local
authorities.
The CIP contains a detailed analysis of the area’s social
and economic situation and its inability to date to compensate for
the loss of the mining industry. The proposals of the CIP reflect
the need to adopt an innovative approach to regeneration if sustainable
benefits are to be achieved.
The strategy therefore seeks to encourage innovation by:
a) Stressing the need for an integrated programme rather than a
series of individual actions – URBAN II will have a central,
high profile role in this programme
b) Broadening the scope of regeneration activity by embracing related
issues in health, local participation, environmental conservation
and equal opportunities
c) Providing a climate for the development of innovative projects
in parallel with the range of accompanying programmes such as Neighbourhood
Renewal, Excellence in Cities and the Education Action Zones.(If
you doo not have access to zip file, each chapter is saved separately
at the bottom of this page)
