Project Description: To engage young people, aged 13 - 19 in 'out of hours' study, to support their formal education and engage them in a process of lifelong learning. This project targets young people from within the URBAN II communities who are most at risk of disaffection and underachievement.

Title: Urban II To You

Project Description: To engage and work with young people aged 13-19 years, offering intensive Personal Adviser support to excluded groups who do not access mainstream services. Advisers offer careers education and guidance support, and advice and information on learning and employment opportunities.  An Access Fund provides a resource to cover initial costs when starting work, training or a learning opportunity.

Title: C to C Integrated Youth Work

Project Description: This project is a pilot to test out a cross boarder project with 2 youth development services working together.  The project involves youth workers and connexions staff working in partnership.  It will test new approaches to engaging young people in coalfield communities.  The project seeks to co-ordinate and enhance existing youth provision, and create new opportunities to reach young people not currently engaged.  The project has set up a Key fund pot, which young people can access.

Title: Youth / Community Allotment

Project Description: To engage with disadvantaged/ disenfranchised young people between the ages of 13-25, by offering the opportunity of participating in a youth/community allotment.  The youth/community allotment provides opportunities to raise the aspirations of young people and increase their capacity to take advantage of other training and learning opportunities.  Staff build relationships with the young people who attend and offer appropriate support, advice, counselling and a sign posting services.

Title: Regeneration Partnership Development

Project Description: To provide community development services to assist with the establishment of new and existing Community Regeneration Partnerships and Social Enterprises, undertake capacity building in relation to self worth and access to employment opportunities in Murton, Haswell and South Hetton communities.  The project staff advise and support community activists to access funding and co-ordinate training and employment opportunities.

Project Description: To build a two-storey extension to the Access Point building.  The extension will accommodate a purpose built training room and an accompanying crèche facility.  The Training Room will accommodate teaching and training sessions for up to twenty-five participants and will be used for a variety of courses.

Title: The Hetton Centre - Community Development Worker

Project Description: The project employs a Community Development Worker to develop the capacity of the Hetton Trust which manages the Hetton Centre.  The worker supports the Hetton Trust in establishing the community facilities and enabling the widest possible range of organisations, groups, individuals and families to access them.

Project Description: The project seeks to encourage young people to participate in lifelong learning with emphasis placed upon social education, confidence building, guidance and counselling, pre-vocational and assertiveness skills.  The project offers an alternative to provision offered by mainstream institutions, targeting young people who are or face disaffection or exclusion from mainstream provision and local communities.

Project Description: The project will enable Easington Lane and Houghton Racecourse Community Access Points to extend the training programmes available both within the two centres and across the wider area.  It creates access to training for local people.  The project employs two Training Managers (one for each centre), an Administrator and part-time Crèche Manager.

Title: The Hetton Centre Build Project

Project Description: The project provided funding for the design and build of the Hetton Centre. The Hetton Centre is a multi-functional community facility or 'One-Stop-Shop' in the centre of Hetton. The community facility allows for an integrated programme of educational, recreational, cultural and social activities delivered by the City of Sunderland and other statutory and voluntary organisations co-located within the building.

Title: The Robin Todd Centre Build Project

Project Description: The project provided funding for the building of the Robin Todd Centre.  The new facility has replaced the old centre that stood on the same site.  The centre is used to provide training, social, recreational and health improvement opportunities for the residents of South Hetton.

Project Description: The project will recruit 42 individuals, representing 21 community and voluntary organisations to attend an apprenticeship scheme which enables local people to develop through participation in social enterprise.  The apprenticeships run over 6-9 month cycles.  The model enables the apprentices to learn from each other, from experienced mentors and through formal workshops and activity weekends.

Project Description: The main purpose of the project is to promote and support lifelong learning and raise the levels of achievement and aspiration of residents within Murton, South Hetton and Haswell communities.  Participants are able to access and engage in learning and enterprise in a supportive, non-threatening environment and benefit from individual action planning and support with flexible drop-in and drop-out points.

Project Description: This project primarily operates from the Hetton Centre and will develop into the wider outreach area.  Learning Mentors develop  programmes of courses in order to engage the local community and those that are 'hard-to-reach'.  Removing barriers to encourage widening participation is seen as an integral part of the mentoring role, offering learners a befriending and supportive environment.

The project aims to empower the Coalfield community while at the same time improving the physical environment of the coast and cycle network that runs through the URBAN II area. The project will develop a Ranger Service to patrol and carry out countryside management and maintenance duties across the project area focusing on those areas not currently services and identified anti-social hotspots.

Project Description: The project will provide community transport for the URBAN II area. The provision will reduce the barriers faced by the residents of the area as the access community facilities, training, employment and childcare. The project will run two community minibuses, volunteer drivers will be trained through the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MIDAS).

Project Description: The vision of the project is to create a space for young people, ran and supported by young people (with workers facilitating this process). It is anticipated that it will operate in the style of a café with drinks and snacks available. In this comfortable informal environment, young people can access services such as health, housing, information and advice. Also, at least 24 young people will train in particular skills such as DJ skills, introduction to Youth Work.

Project Description:To lay high quality paving in Market Street area, incorporating heritage features in consultation with shopkeepers, traders and residents. Dropped kerbs and tactile pavements to enhance access for disabled and thos with pushchairs. The physical improvements will incorporate heritage and cultural features linked to the theme of commerce as well as aesthetically improving the main street in Hetton Downs, encouraging new businesses and strengthening existing ones.

Project Description:

To provide a wireless network that will provide access to internet to eligible members of the public. Access will be granted to pupils, their extended family and citizens eligible to receive equipment as part of the Computers for Pupils scheme and Digital Challenge programme. This will assist in reducing the feeling of isolation for housebound citizens, and encourage active participation for in community events.

Project Description:

To provide family learning and community support on the nursery grounds.  The aim is to provide a base for high quality training and family learning.  The project would provide a community room, which would be used for nurture groups and other professionals e.g. Health Visitors, Speech & Language Therapists to provide early intervention for children, thus encouraging higher chances of economic well being.  The project would enable parents and carers in the local community to access training and employment opportunities whilst their children are in nursery or childcare onsite, thus helping them to remove a major barrier for those wishing to return or enter employment.
